(English Translation - A writer is not one with a good vocabulary, but one who should dwell himself into natural things and bring up the unnatural things out of it and express the same in simple words for others to understand!)

Skandagiri - Heaven!

With HTS Utsav ’07 being a history, the name SWADES was fading out slowly. Before it could fade out completely, the young and energetic group decided to go on a trip. With lot of dilemma over a day’s trip or two, we finally decided on a day’s trip. The place chosen was Kalavara Hills or Skandagiri.

Kalavara Hills or Skandagiri is a hilly region, located close to the famous Nandi Hills. You just cannot believe that there exists a paradise around Bangalore, as during morning hours, it’s just a dry hard rock and nothing else. The actual beauty prevails only during night and dawn.

We were a group of 14 members that set off with great enthusiasm. Nothing much to talk about the journey, as it was hardly one and half hour journey from Bangalore. With the whole city asleep, roads of Bangalore were empty, which was a rare sight, and we cruised on the roads at around 11.30 in the night.

Reaching the place at around 1 in the night, we hired a guide and started off with trek by bolting some food in our mouth. The little boy (Guide) guided us through out the ascent. Armed with torches and with the help of the moonlight, we traveled all the way towards the pinnacle.

As we climbed up, the temperature was falling, but we couldn’t make out as we were totally warmed up. Further rising towards the top, the street lights downhill were bright enough and were looking like serial lights decorating the mother earth. The moon was slowly being engulfed by the clouds and was no more visible. Moving into few pit-stops, we carried on to a place just close to the pinnacle, where there were few tea shops (to be accurate tea tents). Few of us had hot teaand bought a bunch of twigs to set off a camp fire. Waw!! The camp fire made us very comfortable in those chilling conditions….

Relaxing for an hour, when it was about to dawn we went on top of the hill. In a few minutes, we were not only on top of the hill, but were on top of the world. Yes! We had a majestic view of the sun rise with oceanic view of clouds covering the entire place beneath us. We felt like stepping on those clouds and keep sailing.

We could see all other hills around being immersed in that milky cloud cover. The view was breathtaking. I could hear people around saying “I have seen this view only in mythological movies, where they show the scene of heaven”. But this was nothing less than Heaven. These sceneries made us stand agape. We witnessed nature which was at its best.
